Gang-rape and murder in Badaun of a 50-year-old woman, Uttar Pradesh

The 50-year-old went to the temple and was raped and murdered by an archeologist and his two companions.

On the 3rd of January 2021, the 50-year-old went to the temple and was sexually abused and reportedly murdered by the priest and his two companions.

Dr. Yashpal Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Budaun said, "The post mortem reports revealed minor damage to her private parts, there are damages and she has a fracture on one of her legs. There was excessive bleeding which led to trauma and that led to the victim's death. Prima facie we found evidence of rape”.

A member of the National Commission for Women said the gang-rape and murder, could have been prevented if she had not gone out alone in the evening. "I tell women again and again that they should never go out at late times under someone's command," a member of commission Chandramukhi Devi was reported as telling by India's Press Trust.

"I think if she hadn't gone out in the evening or had any company of any child of the family, maybe this incident might have been prevented. But this was pre-planned as she was called through a phone call. She went (out) and found dead in the mysterious condition," Chandramukhi Devi said after meeting the family of the victim, PTI reported.

Budaun Senior Police Superintendent Sankalp Sharma said, “A case was filed against the convicted on the grounds of this. Two of the suspects were arrested on Tuesday night, while Mahant was still in hiding” and also, confirmed that the local police were irresponsible in dealing with the case, adding that disciplinary action was being taken.

These incidents cause Goosebumps to hear them as those horrific crimes take place. The situation of a 50-year-old lady, "the age of a mother," sounds out of one's head. In a culture that plays the role of a priest, we should feel shame for making such a kind of human. However, people in our nation claim that women can not go out alone or do something they want to do for their own satisfaction. Women themselves criticize women (victim) instead of supporting the sufferer and educating men about all these incidents in our case. If we speak about this particular case temple, considered as one of the safest places for any being is believed, but something very unforeseen happened here, and we can't just blame women for such incidents, the fault is in the culture and environment. Nowadays, the next move is rape, which always needs to change in the current situation, to objectify women for just one thing even if they fail to do so.

Adding to the casualties of the authorities, I do not realize why the authorities involved take such cases lightly. The jurisdiction is either the regional police or a member of the National Women's Committee. Such a heinous crime whether happened with a minor girl or senior citizen women what matters is "it happened". Rather than lifting our voice against crimes like that. What we do is ask women not to come out of the house all by themselves.
